Des Plaines, IL – October 2nd, 2023 – Orthodontic Experts, a multi-location orthodontic clinic across three states, has always prided ourselves on the ability to provide confident, dream smiles to every patient. Whether it be through our Traditional Metal Braces, Lingual Braces, Gold Braces, or even our Clear Aligners, we make it our priority to produce a smile that will leave you grinning for years to. Since we understand that some of our patients will prefer to have a more invisible option to achieve their confident smiles – especially amongst our young professional patients – we happily provide an invisibly clear option: Clear Aligners.
Nowadays, there are many reasons why someone might opt out of metal braces and into an invisible alternative. One reason might be that you not want any metal in your mouth. Another might be because you would prefer to transition your smile in a way that does not announce to the world. Maybe, the reason has to do with confidence and fearing that regular braces might shake your self-esteem. Or, a third and very common reason could also be because you are a professional in the workplace and would prefer to keep that look. Well, do not fret – Orthodontic Experts understands the need for this option and happily offer Clear Aligners.
With Clear Aligners, just as any type of our braces, a patient first comes in to the clinic for a no-cost consultation. From there, an impression of your teeth is made. This will allow our orthodontists to create a completely personalized treatment plan for you. Then, that same impression is sent to our lab where the first tray within a series of trays – or clear aligners – is measured to the dimensions of your teeth and mouth. After that, you are to wear the aligners for a mimimun of 22 hours each day within your treatment journey. This means that you should take the aligners off whenever you are eating and brushing. However, it is imperative that the aligners are immediately placed back on your teeth after your oral hygiene routine. Then, you will have to scheduled some follow up appointments where you come back into the clinic. This is where our orthodontists will evaluate the transition of your teeth and provide you with the next set of trays. Finally, just as all other braces options, you will be “debonded” from the clear aligners and transitioned into a personalized retainer. This will allow your teeth to continue their transition into your new smile. Without the retainer, your teeth have the opportunity to shift back into their old positions.
However, with a different type of braces comes some different oral hygiene rules:
1. Keeping Your Teeth and Aligners Clean – Just as with any set of braces, an extremely important hygiene rule is to keep up with daily brushing and flossing habits. This means that you should be brushing your teeth and flossing after every meal and before you put the aligners back on. Similarly, the aligners, themselves, also need to be brushed before they can be placed back in your mouth. By brushing those trays, you are able to keep bacteria and food from getting stuck inside the aligners.
2. Soak Your Trays – Another way to make sure your trays are as clean as possible so you avoid any germ- and plaque-build up is by consistently soaking your trays. By allowing them to soak in the cleaning solution around 20-30 minutes a day, you are securing a more transparent look. However, you must rinse the aligners with cold water after the timer goes off as this will ensure minimal irritation.
3. Use Approved Cleaning Solutions – Through utilizing approved cleaning solutions on the aligners, you will secure a cleaner and healthier smile without diminishing the aligners. Our orthodontists reccommend using a special Clear Aligners cleaning solution that is specifically formulated to prevent wear and tear from bacteria.
4. Store Your Aligners Properly – Since you are able to remove the aligners when you eat, it is imperative that you are storing them properly. Since the Clear Aligners come with their own case, our orthodontists recommend that you utilize it to store the aligners when they are removed. This allows the aligners to stay clean and safe from any bacteria, dust, etc.
If you are stuggling to find a braces option that works for you, your confidence, or even your day-to-day life, then look no further than the Clear Aligners at Orthodontic Experts. Our knolwedgeable staff will educate you on the treatment journey you will embark on, how to stay up to date with cleaning the aligners and attending appointments, and any other questions that you may have. So, come join our community of patients and embark on our mission to a great, clear smile.
